This movie is actually a remake of a 1977 film called Death Game. I've not seen that movie, but its Wikipedia article details that it is beat for beat the exact same story as Knock Knock, the major differences being that the Louis role was played by a grocery delivery man who the two girls deliberately murder rather than indirectly kill, the girls do a mock trial rather than a mock game show, there's no "hide and seek" bit, the details of the "execution at dawn" differ, there's obviously no Facebook stunt, and there is a totally random, outdated Hay's Code type ending where the girls get hit by a van. Eli Roth lifted the plot from Death Game but also drew influence from Fatal Attraction (family man cheats on his wife and pays the price for it), Hard Candy (guilty guy gets fucked with by teenage girls, though in this case only Bel is a teen and neither are underage), and Funny Games (the "hide and seek" part was lifted from there) in order to give it a more distinct identity and make it an even crazier movie.

On the ending, yes, I think the way Eli handled it was close to the best way he could've. The "bad guys must be punished" rule never needed to be in effect, and while I'm not exactly a fan of the bathos note he decided to close it on (Kid, shut up! Let the silence speak volumes!), there's something about the moving camera's little tour of the completely torn up and vandalized house that was going on before it that left me haunted. Especially with those fucking family pictures - that was like getting hit with the realization that the one undisputably true thing Genesis said in the whole movie was, to Evan, "your family are the victims of your sick perversions". In our focus on Evan's torment, we forget that this entire innocent family was made to look like fools here even when only one of them actually made the huge mistake and was actually at home suffering from it. Evan's poor choice in a moment of weakness came with a steep price that not just he, but every member of his family, had to pay.

I can think of about five fixes I wish could've been made to the film before they went with what we got, but that's for another post.

Rude! I just saw Knock Knock and omg, it was perfect. The ending was a little bit loose to me but it kinda had vibes of Hard Candy so I loved it. Genesis was my favorite character! She seems like a natural leader and was so crazy I can't even 😍💖 Gimme more background, that's what I need. I agree with you on the ending. But i think Eli had a big responsibility, you know? Like, do I show what happened afterwards or not? I think he chose wisely and it lets us come to our own conclusions and let me tell you, to me, Evan lost it all. And Genesis, my god, she’s an amazing character… Lorenza is sooo beautiful I can’t 😍.

“Knock Knock” was highly influenced by “Fatal Attraction” with Glenn Close and Michael Douglas, so I’d say watch it. That ending did piss me off. Anyway, thanks for getting back to me, dear! Ohhhh this film made me love Keanu even more too. I mean he’s so daddy… former DJ, now architect working and having a glass of wine home alone? SIGN ME THE FUCK UP.

No one spoil this for me because I've only played through once and maybe this was obvious to literally everyone else or maybe he just flat out says it and I picked the dialogue option where he doesn't BUT

At the tiefling festival if you do sleep with Astarion, the next morning he's just like standing there in a kind of power-pose that honestly made me giggle at first but I didn't really question it at the time, I just chalked it up to his trauma/touch aversion/manipulation/etc.

And then it dawned on me (lol) that while yes that could be true, what he was really doing was enjoying the warmth of the sun on his skin. All his skin.

Yeah, I’m sorry, but a whole month later and I’m still not over this. In all my life, time, and involvement in Pokemon fandom, I don’t think I’ve ever been so unironically happy and welcoming of Atsuhiro Tomioka being a self-plaguarizing hack like I am regarding this here.

I now fully understand what those two episodes and the story told within them were originally intended to stand as by the PokeAni staff, but they ended up never broadcasting those episodes so that we never got that exact story with all that exact set-up in it, so what we were left with now actually stands in the BW series narrative as the Boomerang Cornerstone of the Unova Saga. And I use “Boomerang” because the event canonically occurs within the saga’s narrative, and then every little goddamn thing that happened there comes back to happen again later on in the two important narrative points for Team Rocket and Team Plasma respectively - the pre-League Undella / Meloetta arc and the post-League White Ruins / N arc (Episode N).

And I’ve such a good grasp on how Tomioka’s writing tends to work for his Big, Action-Packed Epic Event Episodes, even the imagined Reshiram VS Zekrom two-parter in the extended post-League final arc of the Unova Saga we should’ve been given would have this going on, with many striking parallels to Team Rocket’s earlier finale.

Team Rocket VS Team Plasma / Operation Tempest 2-Parter

new idea (not a theory because... I don't wanna dig up lore evidence for this):

teyvat is a bubble on the water (yes, like that one line scaramouche says to traveler in inazuma). as in, the firmament is still there -- we all know the firmament theory by this point -- so yes the dome shape, and the borders of that dome are the bubble's surface. not, like, a "bubble universe" -- I mean a literal bubble. "suface tension in the water" bubble. so beyond (beneath) teyvat would be some kind of deep water. the abyss is like a sea, I guess? and by this I really do just mean the abyss, not the other underground places like enkanomiya, irminsul, khaenri'ah, etc.

paimon is afraid of drowning and we did fish her out of the sea east of mondstadt...

also. this isn't evidence but more like. an illustration. the summer event with klee this year, we basically went into a projected world, right? there was this whole mechanic with hydro eidolons, preprints, streaming projections. and in the mary ann quest in fontaine, we also have oceanids recreating stories and a whole world for it too. so it's not really that far-fetched to think that a world can be a projection, and such projections are associated with hydro. illusions (and dreams) in genshin are usually associated with hydro.

so now consider: teyvat is not just a bubble, but a projected world inside a bubble. a hologram out of some kind of blueprint.

and maybe this is why mona is using hydromancy to seek the truth of the world. when she looks at the stars, she's looking at the bubble's surface. we also got to scry with water in enkanomiya to deal with illusions iirc. it's a whole thing. (yes I know there's a high chance mona is actually a star/outsider of teyvat, that's not important here. she doesn't seem to remember that, or at least, she acts like it.)

tangent: alice said that the borders are getting fragile. since she watches over the border, I want her to be a hydro user. either that, or barbeloth is one, since she's mona's master.

I joined shiftblr because I wanted to hear about people’s drs in a nonvideo format. I joined it because I suck at CapCut and would rather write out my drs in a way that’s fun.

bring back just talking about your drs, bring back incorrect quotes, moodboards that represent your dr, stuff you’ve scripted, who you are in your dr, your friends!

All these shifting tags and dr tags are just infested with the same posts about affirming 3D and 4D just written differently

I want to hear people talk about their drs, even if you don’t think it’s “aesthetic” enough, even if you haven’t shifted that gives more motivation that any other post I’ve read. I pause, sit down, and read those, I’m more likely to reblog with an ask.

So the sheer number of allusions between Lucas's work on the prequels and the original trilogy is so satisfying to me. His whole philosophy of "it's like poetry, it rhymes," influenced the prequels on both a macro- and micro- scale. From mirroring themes and large structural choices, to tiny visual beats like this. The prequels are in open dialogue with the originals, and imho it's different from how the Force Awakens recycled and reused story beats, it's not mere reference out of nostalgia. It's very intentional and the meaningful connections that improve both sides of the conversation by virtue of the link.
